A coder prints the surface that faces it. On a bottle, a cap or a length of pipe that is the problem: half the circumference stays blank unless the part or the head turns. A CIJ printer on a rotating mount closes that gap without a second head.

Why Round Product Changes the Job

A CIJ printer throws a charged stream of droplets and steers the ones it needs, so the head never touches the product and can sit at a distance. That works well on a carton face. On a cylinder, the same fixed head marks a narrow band and leaves the rest of the curve empty, which is where a code is either decorative or useless depending on where it lands.

A rotating mount solves it by moving the surface past the print window instead of moving the head. Rotation is tracked by an encoder, so the mark is drawn relative to the part rather than to the belt. The same droplet mechanism is described in the public reference on inkjet printing; what changes is only the geometry and the trigger.

Caps, Tube and Pipe

A rotating CIJ printer suits three shapes above all. Closures and small caps, where the code has to sit on the side wall and stay legible after capping. Tube and pipe extrusion, where a metre mark and a specification line have to run continuously along a round profile. And cylindrical packaging such as cans and towers, where brand and legal text share the same curved face.

Flat packaging does not need this. If your product presents a stable flat face to a fixed head, a standard mount costs less and is easier to service, and specifying rotation there buys nothing.

Four Specs for a Rotating Mount

Spec What to set What it decides
Rotation encoder Triggered from the rotating fixture, not the conveyor Whether the code sits where you put it on the curve
Print height 2-12.7 mm small character range How much of the circumference the mark can carry
Ink to surface Matched to plastic, coated metal, pipe or foil Whether the mark survives handling and, for caps, the capping operation
Content Date, batch, serial and a QR code on one pass Whether one mount covers both legal and scannable codes

How the Mount Is Configured

The rotating fixture is built around the part, not sold as a generic bracket, so a sample of your own cap, tube or can is the starting point rather than an optional extra. SHICAI builds the coding line in China and sells factory-direct; the build documentation travels with the machine and buyers can ask for ISO 9001 quality management confirmation before ordering. Because the mark wraps the part, the check that matters is a scan of the finished code, not a photograph of the head.

The Rotating Build

Rotating inkjet printer

Rotating mount for the CIJ range: the part turns under a fixed head, so the mark follows the circumference instead of stopping at the seam.

  • 2-12.7mm print height
  • Prints Chinese, English, date, QR code and logo
  • Marks metal, plastic, tube, foam and carton

Cylinder Questions

Can a coder print all the way around a round product?
A fixed head marks the side that faces it. To cover a cylinder without a second head, the product or the head rotates so the mark travels with the surface, which is what a rotating mount is for.
Which round products suit a rotating CIJ mount?
Caps, closures, small bottles, tube and pipe, and any cylindrical part that passes a fixed print window. Flat cartons do not need it, which is why the mount is specified per product shape.
Does rotating coding slow the line?
It changes the timing rather than reducing it. The encoder tracks rotation instead of belt travel, so the trigger point and the dwell have to be set together on your own product.

Where to Go Next

  • If the mark has to be permanent rather than printed, compare ink marking against laser before you choose.
  • For the running-cost side of a CIJ decision, the marking and coding price guide is already published.
  • Send a photo of the part, the code content and the output rate to +86 17625427465 or kuangcy@126.com. We build a fixture sample, verify the code scans on the curved surface, and quote the mount. No charge for the trial, no order implied.
