A rewinding inkjet printer codes label stock while it rewinds the finished web into a roll, so printing and winding happen in one pass. Crooked edges, loose wraps and a wrong label count usually trace back to three spec gaps: web width, rewind diameter and counter resolution. Here is how to close them.
What the Machine Does in One Pass
Label stock leaves an unwind, runs past a print head that fires on trigger, and winds onto a finished core. Because coding and rewinding share one drive, the code lands in the same position on every label and nobody handles the web between steps. Most roll defects are winding defects rather than print defects, and they surface later as a telescoped reel or a count that does not match the order.
The print side is thermal inkjet. A TIJ nozzle heats a small volume of ink to form a droplet on demand, which is why suppliers also call it thermal foaming. It lays down clean 600 dpi class text and barcodes without the solvent handling a continuous system needs, and the droplet physics are the ones described in the public reference on inkjet printing.
Where Roll-Fed Coding Pays Off
Three jobs dominate. Self-adhesive label converters print serial numbers, batch codes and QR codes onto finished reels and ship them to the packer. Packaging shops that make their own tape, foil seals or coated paper labels code in-house rather than buying pre-printed stock. Shipping in reels also demands a verified count per roll, which is a rewind function, not a print function.
Stock matters more than speed here. Paper labels, stickers, PVC film, tape, foil and coated paper each hold ink differently, so a sample run on your material is the only reliable test.
Five Specs That Decide Fit
| Spec | What to check | Why it bites |
|---|---|---|
| Web width | 20-300 mm on the L10-FJ30 | Stock outside the rated range tracks sideways and winds crooked |
| Print height | 2-12.7 mm with a TIJ thermal foaming nozzle | Too short for tall characters, too coarse for small barcode text |
| Finished roll diameter | Up to 500 mm outer diameter | A unit rated to 320 mm cannot close a 500 mm reel |
| Label counter | 1-15 digits | Closes a reel at a target count instead of guessing from roll size |
| Throw distance | 2-5 mm from head to stock | Wider gaps blur small characters and soften barcode edges |
Read the five together. A wide web wound fast with a short counter range still gives you a reel you cannot reconcile, and narrow stock wound too fast telescopes.
How SHICAI Builds the Rewind Path
SHICAI builds industrial coding and marking equipment in China and sells factory-direct, so the specification you receive is the one the machine was built to, not a distributor’s substitute. Buyers routinely ask us to confirm ISO 9001 quality management certification, and we supply it. Rewind units are configured per job, so each order is scoped against your stock with sample prints before commitment.
L10-FJ30 rewinding inkjet printer
The wide-web unit in this family: one pass prints and rewinds, closing reels up to 500 mm.
- Handles label widths from 20-300 mm
- 2-12.7 mm print height with TIJ thermal foaming nozzle
- Rewinds finished rolls up to 500 mm outer diameter
Frequently Asked Questions
- What web width does the L10-FJ30 handle?
- It handles label widths from 20-300 mm, covering most self-adhesive, PVC film, tape and paper label stock. Webs outside that range track sideways and wind crooked.
- How large a finished roll can it rewind?
- Up to 500 mm outer diameter. Specify the roll you actually ship rather than the machine maximum, because a larger reel needs a stronger drive and a matching core.
- Does it count labels while rewinding?
- Yes. A 1-15 digit counter tracks labels per roll, so an operator closes a reel at a target count rather than estimating from diameter.
Next Steps
- If your web runs under 150 mm, start with the F320 rewinding machine, the narrower unit in the same rewind family.
- If you also apply labels to product, read what an automatic label applicator does before sizing the rewind side.
- Send web width, material and target roll count to +86 17625427465 or kuangcy@126.com. A SHICAI engineer returns a configuration and a quotation within 24 hours; sample runs on your stock are free and carry no commitment.
